In high stakes world of finance, money is everywhere. Hedge fund managers and bankers run funds with millions, even billions of dollars, and try to make that money grow for their clients and themselves. Financial regulators from the Securities and Exchange Commission, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, the Federal Reserve, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau aim to crack down on the crimes that make these financial institutions so profitable. In this committee, you’ll represent lawyers from regulatory agencies, FBI agents, CEOs from major corporations, bankers, hedge fund managers, and politicians. You’ll need to work together to avert financial and PR crises while competing with each other to get the highest returns, make the biggest deals, crack the biggest cases, and put each other in jail.
This committee is inspired by but not reliant upon the show Billions on Showtime. You don’t need to watch it to understand this committee, as basic information on the mechanics of finance will be provided in the background guide. Additionally, we recommend that you have some prior Model UN experience before this committee, as the typical mechanics of parliamentary procedure will be modified slightly to accommodate this fast-paced committee.
